About Me
I am passionate about helping children, adolescents and young adults feel good and do good in the world.
Why work with me?
I take a non-judgmental approach in my therapy, believing that you are the expert on your life and I am there to help ask the right questions and provide you with the tools to help you thrive.
My name is Simaya, I’m a licensed therapist currently living in Charleston, SC, with my family and our sweet dog Otis. I am originally from the Netherlands and moved to Charleston in 2013 to pursue my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina.
I am passionate about helping children and adolescents feel good and do good in the world! My past work and life experiences have made me realize how important it is to feel connected to others, especially when you are going through a hard time. My goal is for you to feel like you have another person on your team who is there to help you figure things out. Children deserve to feel safe, happy and loved, and get help when they need it. There is no shame in that!
When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the park with my dog, and spending endless days at the beach. Summer is my favorite season by far! That might be one of the reasons why Charleston is a much better fit for me than the Netherlands where I grew up. I have several experiences of living abroad, and love to travel. I speak English, Dutch and Spanish. Taking a non-judgmental stance and approaching situations and people with curiosity and respect is important to me in my travels and at home. I love getting to know new people, and my therapeutic approach is respectful, kind, and caring. I know that trust has to grow, and I am here for the process of building it together.
My areas of specialty:
- Problematic Sexual Behaviors in Children
- Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD) in Children and Adolescents
- Depression and Anxiety in Children and Adolescents
